Herinton Hotel HB-76-02-01 NW corner of Broadway & Walnut. Herington Hotel which caught fire around 10:00pm and burned February 8th, 1899 (typed accession card says 9th which is incorrect date). Debus & Clark barber shop was in the southeast corner of the hotel, a saloon in the basement, the stairway was at the corner on Broadway, beneath the barbershop. No pavement, just cross walk.

Harrison Building HB-78-07-01 Harrison Building, first theatre in northside of building. The building was built in 1906, Contractor - Walter Covert. The second floor, south side, was home for Dr. & Mrs. Wm. H. Harrison and family. Doctor offices were at the front. The second floor (North side) was fixed up for suites of "Light Housekeeping" rooms, two tea suites, two back rooms (North side) were rented to the telephone company. They were there for some time until they moved further north on Broadway. The downstairs was rented to the Sprowl Grocery Store (cousin of Dr. Harrison) and to the Dreamland Theater. Later, after the picture show moved to an airdome across the street and Sprowl's moved further north on Broadway. Dr. Harrison had a big opening cut between the 2 businesses and put in a grocery, dry goods, and shoes. There for many years.

H-75-03-01 Birds Eye View of Herington H-75-03-01 Birds Eye View of Herington 1884/1885. Picture belonged to Perry Hampton. The photo was taken from the area around the corner of A and Walnut. Behind the roofline of the livery stable can be seen the First Presbyterian at 301 N. Broadway. The house at 317 N. Broadway, just to the right of the Presbyterian Church, is still standing today. The large house in the center background is thought to be Mr. Risley's residence at 306 North Broadway. To the extreme left of the picture is the front porch of the Barrett House hotel which was completed in the spring of 1885. Grading for the Missouri Pacific railway, which came through Herington in October 1885, is visible running from right to left behind the businesses on East Main street.

H-87-01-01 Kate Baker's Ladies Silver Cornet Band H-87-01-01 The celebrated Claire Patee Co. Edith Arnold "And just plain comedian never before presented - Willard Simms". Band Major, 1 tuba, 4 trombones, 2 cornets are women, men on snare drum and 1 bass drum. Little girls leaning on drum. Bass drum says "Kate Baker's Ladies Silver Cornet Band". The band of Kate Baker of LeClede, Missouri advertised, "the only female band in America with a lady drum major" (but which did have two male musicians). That group accompanied a root, herb, and bark medicine show operator, Dr. Diamond Dick (a.k.a. George B. McClellan, not the Civil War general), in a four-month campaign through Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas promoting his remedies under the banner of "Indian Methods Alone!"
